NORMAN, Okla. – Alabama softball’s season came to an end Saturday afternoon at Love’s Field as the Crimson Tide fell to Oklahoma in game two of the Super Regional round, 13-2, in five innings.

This year marked Alabama’s (40-23) NCAA-best 19th trip to NCAA Super Regionals and the 24th time the Crimson Tide has reached the 40-win mark, 23 of which have come under Head Coach Patrick Murphy.

Oklahoma (50-7) scored first with an RBI single in the second inning and pulled away with an eight-run third to lead 9-0. Solo home runs from Kali Heivilin and Marlie Giles in the third and fourth innings, respectively, brought it back within seven but the Sooners surged back ahead with four in the top of the fifth to lead by double digits, 13-2. Needing to score four runs to avoid the run-rule loss in the bottom half, Lauren Johnson and Heivilin hit back-to-back singles with two out but a groundout ultimately ended the game.

FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY

“Thank you to OU for hosting this Super Regional. I know it’s a lot of work for everybody to host two weeks in a row and they did a great job, good hospitality all the way around. Oklahoma is a good team and I know they’ll represent this 2 vs. 15 matchup very well at the World Series.”
