TALLAHASSEE – The No. 5 Florida State softball team (49-11) fell to No. 12 Texas Tech (49-12), 3-0, on Thursday night in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional at JoAnne Graf Field.

The Red Raiders struck first as the first two batters reached base to put pressure on the Noles. Ashtyn Danley forced an out on a groundball, but an errant throw to second base on a steal allowed the runner at third to come home. The Red Raiders added two more runs with solo home runs in fourth and seventh innings.

Hits were hard to come by for the Noles against reigning National Player of the Year NiJaree Canady. FSU got some momentum in the fifth inning as Michaela Edenfield drew a leadoff walk, and Shelby McKenzie picked up an infield single to put runners on first and second with one out, but the Noles were unable to push a run across.

The Noles will be back in action for game two tomorrow at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
