Softball Heads to Oklahoma for Super Regionals

For an NCAA-record 19th time, our softball team will continue its season in the Super Regional round, taking on No. 2 seed Oklahoma in Norman. Game one of the best-of-three series is scheduled for a 4 p.m. CT first pitch Friday on ESPN2. Game two has a 2 p.m. CT start on Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN, while the if necessary game three will take place on Sunday with time and TV designation to be determined. Let’s keep it rolling!

NCAA Baseball Selection Show

The NCAA baseball field of 64 will be announced Monday on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. CT. Regionals are scheduled to begin Friday, May 30 on the campus of the top 16 seeds.

Track and Field Wins Four Gold Medals at SEC Championships

Our men’s and women’s track and field teams recently returned from SEC Championships in Lexington where we earned 10 top-three finishes, including four gold medals. On the men’s side, Victor Kiprop won his fourth consecutive 10,000 meter title, while Samuel Ogazi took gold in the 400 meter. SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Honda Sport Award winner Doris Lemngole captured a pair of gold medals on the women’s side, first defending her 3,000 meter steeplechase title followed by the top finish in the 5,000 meter.

Next up, our track and field teams will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for the NCAA East First Round meet, which will take place at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium Wednesday, May 28 – Saturday, May 31.

Record-Setting Year in the Classroom

We are incredibly proud of the job our student-athletes did in the classroom throughout the spring semester, earning a department-best 3.501 grade point average. In addition, the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rankings had all 21 of our teams well above the national cutoff, including seven that scored a perfect 1,000 (men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball). Football’s mark of 998 not only was a program best, but also was the highest in the SEC and ranked second nationally.

University Spotlight

Here’s a fun “Did you know?” spotlight on The University of Alabama, which highlights five inventions that started right here on our campus. The first mentioned on the list is one very familiar to us here in athletics and was led by our very own Jeff Allen.
