Next Test: Seminoles Look to Clinch 13th WCWS Berth Against Texas Tech
- The Seminoles will look to return to Oklahoma City as they host No. 12 Texas Tech in the Tallahassee Super Regional.
- FSU advanced to its 12th overall Super Regional and its 11th Super Regional in the last 12 seasons.
- FSU is hosting its seventh Super Regional this weekend. FSU has advanced to the WCWS in four out of the six times it has hosted a Super Regional.
- FSU earned a top 8 seed for the eighth time under Coach Alameda and the seventh time in the last nine seasons.
Last Time Out
- The Seminoles rolled through the Tallahassee Regional as they went 3-1 and outscored their opponents 22-1 in their three wins over Robert Morris, USF and Auburn.
- FSU run-ruled Robert Morris and USF in back-to-back games. It was just the third time in program history that FSU run ruled back-to-back opponents in the NCAA Tournament. FSU accomplished that feat in the 2019 Tallahassee Regional and the 2022 Tallahassee Regional.
- Ashtyn Danley was phenomenal in the circle as she threw 10 scoreless innings and picked up two wins.
- Offensively, Isa Torres led the way with seven hits while Amaya Ross, Katie Dack and Shelby McKenzie each picked up four RBI.
Seminole Softball Complex Continues to be One of Toughest Places to Play
- After a 38 day hiatus from JoAnne Graf Field, the Seminoles returned to The Plex last weekend
- The 38 days was the longest FSU has ever gone in between home games in program history.
- JoAnne Graf Field has become one of the best home field advantages in college softball over recent memory.
- FSU is 60-19 in Tallahassee in the NCAA Tournament.
- Since 2019, FSU is 166-25 at JoAnne Graf Field.
Noles’ History Against the Red Raiders
- Thursday will be the first time FSU and Texas Tech have met in the postseason.
- Texas Tech leads the all-time series 4-2, but FSU defeated Texas Tech last season at the JoAnne Graf Classic in Tallahassee.
Noles’ NCAA Tournament History
- Florida State will be playing in its 12th overall Super Regional and its 11th Super Regional in the last 12 seasons.
- FSU is 13-14 in the Super Regional
- FSU holds a 114-81 record in the NCAA Tournament.
- FSU will be looking to qualify for its 13th Women’s College World Series.
- FSU has not missed back-to-back Women’s College World Series since the 2012 and 2013 seasons. FSU did not qualify for the Women’s College World Series last season.
Noles Up For the Challenge that the Red Raiders Bring
- There’s no hiding it. The main storyline in the Tallahassee Super Regional will be when one of the nation’s top offense takes on one of the best pitchers in the country.
- FSU faced Nijaree Canady last year while she was at Stanford in the Clearwater Invitational.
- The Noles had some success against Canady as they tallied four runs on six hits. Jahni Kerr led the way with two hits while current Seminoles Isa Torres, Jaysoni Beachum and Hallie Wacaser each picked up a hit.
- FSU was one of just six teams to have six or more hits against Canady last season.
- FSU also has history against Chloe Riassetto who is Texas Tech’s No. 2 pitcher.
- The Seminoles faced Riassetto in 2023 when she was at Louisiana. Current Seminoles Katie Dack, Jahni Kerr, Hallie Wacaser and Krystina Hartley picked up hits against Riassetto. FSU won the game 10-2 in six innings.
Unsung Heroes Come Up Big In Tallahassee Regional
- The Seminoles had a couple of new faces play a big part in the Tallahassee Regional this last weekend.
- True freshman Shelby McKenzie hit her first two career home runs this last weekend as a pinch hitter. McKenzie hit her first career home run against USF on Saturday then gave the Noles a crucial insurance run in the final game against Auburn. McKenzie ended her weekend 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI.
- Amaya Ross had a career game against USF as she had her first multi-home run game of her career against the Bulls. Ross is just the fourth Nole to have a multi-home run game in the NCAA Tournament. She joined Cassidy Davis (2021), Anna Shelnutt (2017) and Jessi Warren (2015).
- Annie Potter had just four at bats this weekend but made the most of them. Potter had two hits, each resulting in a RBI, including a double to give FSU a commanding 4-0 lead against Auburn.
- FSU’s pinch hitters were 4-for-8 in the Tallahassee Regional.
Noles’ Season at a Glance
- Florida State softball proved to be one of the nation’s top teams once again in 2025.
- FSU finished the regular season 46-9 and 18-3 in ACC play on its way to the program’s 15th ACC Regular Season Championship.
- FSU stayed ranked inside the top 10 of the two major polls from Week 1 until Week 14.
- FSU is 8-2 in its last 10 games against ranked opponents.
- FSU started 16-1 in ACC play which was its best start in ACC play since finishing 24-0 in ACC play in 2017.
- FSU won 14 consecutive games from Mar. 11-April 2 where it outscored its opponents 118-38.
- The Noles finished the regular season with nine wins against teams ranked in the top 25 of the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
- Six out of FSU’s 10 losses are to teams ranked in the top 15 of the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25. Eight out of FSU’s 10 losses have been by three runs or less.
- FSU has had two instances where they have had five-consecutive run-rule wins this season. FSU won five games via run rule from Feb. 8-15 and again from Feb. 27-Mar. 1. Both of those streaks are tied for the second-longest in school history and the longest since 2019.
- The Noles finished the Clearwater Invitational undefeated with a 4-0 record. FSU finished undefeated at the Clearwater Invitational for the third time which is a tournament record.
Built to Finish
- A Lonni Alameda team seems to always play its best ball in April and May and they look to be on the same path this year.
- Since the 2021 season, FSU is 109-20-1 in the months of April and May.
- Since 2014, FSU is 61-24 under Coach Alameda in the NCAA Tournament.
Starting Fast
- The recipe to success has been fairly simple for the Noles this season: start fast.
- FSU has outscored its opponents 91-20 in the first inning and holds a 31-3 record when it scores in the first inning.
- The Seminoles are 38-4 this season when they score first compared to 11-6 when the opponent scores first.
- FSU is 43-2 when they lead after four innings.
Noles’ Offense Proving to be One of Best in the Country
- FSU has always been known for its pitching, but this year, FSU has posted one of the most lethal offenses in the country.
- FSU leads the country with 561 hits and sixth in the country with 451 runs. FSU needs 9 runs to break the school record of 459 runs in a season set by the 2016 team.
- FSU is hitting .353 which ranks third in the country. FSU is on pace to break the school record of the .332 batting average record that was set by last year’s team.
- FSU is eighth in the country with 7.64 runs per game.
- FSU has also hit 83 home runs which is 11th in the country. FSU’s 76 home runs is the third-most in school history.
- FSU ranks in the top 10 nationally in hits (1st), batting average (5th), RBI (6th), total runs (6th), triples (7th) and runs per game (8th).
- In 2024, FSU scored 456 runs last season which was the second-most in FSU history and was just four runs short of breaking the school record, and they broke the 2019 team’s batting average record as the Noles hit .332 last season. FSU is on pace to break both of those records this season.
- FSU also hit the second-most home runs in school history with 89, trailing the 2019 team that hit 105 home runs.
Noles Continuing Legacy of Great Pitching
- Under the guidance of Head Coach Lonni Alameda, the FSU pitching staff looks to be back to its regular self this season.
- After a 2024 season that saw the Noles post a 3.71 ERA which ranked 150th in the country, FSU has been phenomenal in the circle so far this year.
- FSU has the sixth-best ERA in the country with a 2.23 ERA.
- The Noles have been pitching by committee this season as four pitchers have pitched more than 70 innings with no player pitching more than 102 innings. FSU has four players with a 3.00 ERA or lower.
- Ashtyn Danley and Jazzy Francik have been leading the way in the circle and have been fantastic. Francik and Danley are eighth and ninth in the country in ERA with a 1.57 and 1.58 ERA respectively.
- FSU has been terrific at pounding the zone as they are eighth in the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.44).
- FSU has surrendered just 78 walks this season which is the fifth-fewest in the entire country.
Torres Becoming One of Nation’s Top Hitters and Shortstops
- Few have had as good of a season as Isa Torres this season as she has been money for FSU at the top of the lineup.
- Torres is hitting .448 with nine home runs and 45 RBI.
- More impressively, Torres is hitting .433 against top 25 opponents this season.
- Torres has recorded 95 hits this season which is third in the entire country and leads the ACC.
- Torres’ 95 hits are the third most in FSU history. She is just five hits away from breaking the 25 year single season record for most hits by a Seminole.
- Torres had a great weekend at the Tallahassee Regional where she was 7-for-15 with a home run.
- Torres has recorded a hit in 51 out of FSU’s 59 games this season and has reached base in 54 out of the 59 games this season.
- Torres has been FSU’s leadoff hitter in 55 of the 59 games this season after being in the leadoff position just twice last season.
- Torres has struck out just four times this season in 212 at bats. Her four strikeouts are tied for the lowest of any player in the Power Four.
- Torres is also third on the team with 11 stolen bases.
- Torres was named a Top 10 Finalist for the USA Softball National Player of the Year last week.
- Torres has also been phenomenal at shortstop as she has made countless jaw-dropping plays at the position. Torres has a .963 fielding percentage, making just seven errors in 187 chances.
- Torres finished 2024 with a .356 batting average alone with nine home runs and 57 RBI. Her 57 RBI are tied for the second-most ever by a FSU freshman behind Beachum. Her nine home runs were the fourth-most by a FSU freshman and her .356 batting average was the sixth-highest average by a FSU freshman.
- Torres was rock solid at shortstop for the Noles as she started 61 games at the position where she had just seven errors in 191 attempts.
- Torres earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2024 and was ranked the 19th overall player by Softball America and the 29th overall player by D1Sofball heading into the 2025 season.
Kerr Having One of Her Best Seasons in Her Career
- Jahni Kerr has been a consistent staple in the Noles’ lineup the last three seasons and 2025 has been no different.
- After somewhat of a slow start, Kerr has been on fire since conference play has started. In 21 ACC games, Kerr hit .456 with four home runs and 23 RBI. Her .456 average was tied with Torres for the second-highest in the ACC play during conference play.
- In total, Kerr is hitting .396 with nine home runs and 42 RBI. All three marks are career highs.
- Kerr drove in a run in eight consecutive games from April 11-May 3. Her eight-game RBI streak is tied for the third-longest in school history.
- Kerr had a career game against No. 2 Florida last Wednesday. Kerr drove in all four runs against the Gators as she hit two two-run home runs to power FSU to the win. It was Kerr’s first multi-home run game of her career and she tied her career high with four RBI.
- Kerr one-upped her performance against the Gators with a two-home run and six RBI performance against Cal on April 13.
- Kerr has recorded a hit in 27 out of her last 32 games.
- Kerr earned ACC Player of the Week on April 8 then was named a Softball America Star of the Week on April 15.
- Kerr is a two-time First Team All-ACC performer (2023 & 2025) and was a Third Team All-ACC selection in 2024.
Francik Becoming a Top Pitcher in the ACC and Top Freshman in the Country
- A true freshman and one of the best high school pitchers in Florida, Jazzy Francik has continued to improve and has become one of the best pitchers in the ACC and one of the top freshmen in the country.
- Francik has made seven starts and pitched 89.1 innings.
- Francik has been nearly unstoppable in the circle as of late. In her last three starts, Francik has thrown 19 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits while striking out 21. In her last 13 appearances, Francik has allowed just four earned runs in 39.2 innings.
- Francik has posted a 1.57 ERA with a 10-3 record. Her 1.57 ERA is the lowest ERA in the ACC and the lowest ERA among freshmen in the country.
- Francik has struck out 84 batters compared to 19 walks.
- Francik has come up in huge moments for FSU this season and has recorded eight saves this season which is the second-most in program history for a single season.
- Francik threw the first no-hitter against a ranked opponent against Virginia Tech on May 3. It was also the first no-hitter by a true freshman since Lacey Waldrop in 2012.
- Francik had a great showing against Saint Mary’s on April 9 where she threw a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts. Francik is the first Nole to pitch a complete game this season and her 12 strikeouts were the most by a Seminole since Meghan King in 2019.
- Francik has earned ACC Pitcher of the Week twice this year on Apr. 15 and May 6. She joined Makenna Reid as the only true freshman at FSU to win the award since 2012.
- In her first two appearances of her collegiate career, Francik recorded a win and a save. She joined Bailey Schinella (2012) as the only freshmen in FSU history to record a win and a save in their first two college appearances.
Danley Becoming One of Nation’s Top Pitchers
- Ashtyn Danley came on strong for the Noles late in the 2024 season and took the role as the Noles’ top pitcher as injuries decimated the FSU pitching staff. In 2025, Danley has taken another step in the circle and has become one of the nation’s top arms.
- Danley leads the team with 101.2 innings and is second on the team with 1.58 ERA.
- Danley holds a 14-1 record this season in 35 appearances. Danley has won her last 14 decisions after taking the loss in the season opener against Oklahoma State.
- Danley has been unstoppable as of late. She has not allowed a run in her last 17 innings, which spans over six appearances, and has allowed just six earned runs in her last 30 innings.
- Danley has not allowed an earned run in her last four appearances.
- In the Tallahassee Regional, Danley pitched 10 scoreless innings and picked up two wins.
- Danley had one of her best outings as a Seminole as she shut down No. 2 Florida on April 2 who had a top 10 offense going into the game. Danley threw four scoreless innings to help FSU win 4-0.
- Danley made a team-high 21 starts and pitched a team-high 142.1 innings for the Noles in 2024.
Edenfield Continues To Be Consistent in the Batter’s Box for FSU
- After posting her most consistent season in 2024, Edenfield is coming up big for the Noles once again.
- Edenfield is hitting .336 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI to go along with a team-high 41 walks.
- Out of her 50 hits this season, 27 of them have resulted in a RBI.
- Edenfield had a solid Tallahassee Regional where she went 4-for-10 with one home run and three RBI.
- Edenfield recorded a hit in eight out of her first 10 at bats at the Clearwater Invitational including a great performance against Wichita State where she went 4-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Her four hits were the most in a game in her career.
- Edenfield hit a career-best .381 last season, which was second on the team, to go along with her 15 home runs and 46 RBI.
- Edenfield has hit 54 career home runs which is third in FSU history. Edenfield needs two home runs to pass Maddie O’Brien for second. Jessi Warren holds the school record with 83 career home runs.
- Edenfield is fifth all-time in FSU history with 202 RBI. She needs seven RBI to move into fourth.
- Edenfield was a Second Team All-ACC selection to finish her career as a four-time All-ACC selection.
- Edenfield posted a slugging percentage of .806 last year which was the fourth-best mark in school history. In her career, Edenfield is slugging .650 which is currently second in FSU history.
- Edenfield also ranks in the top 10 in school history for career walks.
- Edenfield earned Third Team NFCA All-America honors for the first time in her career and was also named First Team All-ACC for the first time in her career.
- Edenfield joined Jessi Warren as the only Seminoles to have 50+ RBI in three separate seasons.
- Edenfield joined Jessi Warren and Sydney Sherrill as the only Seminoles to have 50+ RBI in their first two seasons in the Garnet and Gold.
Dack Having Career Year for the Garnet and Gold
- Katie Dack has regained her power to become one of the most dangerous bats in the Seminole lineup.
- Dack leads the team with 15 home runs and team high 51 RBI Both marks are a career high for Dack.
- Dack is hitting .347 which is also a career high.
- In ACC play, Dack drove in 23 runs which was tied for the team lead with Jahni Kerr.
- Last season, Dack had just three home runs and 10 RBI.
- Dack was named to the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge All-Tournament Team.
Beachum Looks to Continue to be One of Top Hitters in the Country
- Jaysoni Beachum put up some of the best numbers in FSU history last season as a freshman and is putting together another great season for the Garnet and Gold.
- Beachum is hitting .313 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI.
- Beachum hit .417 last season which was the third-best mark in FSU history and was the highest batting average ever by a freshman in FSU history.
- Beachum drove in 66 runs which broke the FSU freshman record and was the most RBI in a season by a Seminole since Jessi Warren in 2018. Beachum also hit 16 home runs which was tied for the sixth-most ever in FSU history.
- Beachum was named the TUCCI/NFCA National Freshman of the Year and earned Second Team All-America honors. Beachum was the first Nole and ACC player to win the award and became the first FSU freshman since Sydney Sherrill to be named a NFCA All-American.
- Beachum was phenomenal at the hot corner for the Noles as she committed just five errors in 154 attempts at third base.
Widra Pitching Well for the Noles
- After pitching just 41.2 innings last season, Widra has been very good in her 71 innings she’s pitched for FSU this season.
- In those 71 innings, Widra has posted a 2.85 ERA with 46 strikeouts.
- Widra has been phenomenal at throwing strikes this season as she has allowed just eight walks compared to 46 strikeouts.
- Widra is second in the country in walks allowed per seven innings (0.79) and 6th in the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.75). Both marks are first in the ACC.
Apsel Brings Valued Experience to Noles’ Pitching Staff
- Apsel brings a lot of experience in the circle after three seasons at Hofstra.
- Apsel has been great for the Seminoles this season. She holds a 12-1 record with a 3.12 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 74 innings.
- Apsel had a great ACC Tournament where she allowed just one earned run and struck out eight batters in 6.2 innings of work over the course of three appearances.
- Apsel is the fourth player since 2000 to win their first 10 decisions as a Seminole. Apsel joins Meghan King (2017), Kathryn Sandercock (2019) and Makenna Reid (2023).
- Apsel has pitched 488 innings in her collegiate career with a 2.64 career ERA and 379 strikeouts.
- Apsel had her best season last year as she posted a 1.39 ERA.
- Apsel pitched 20 complete games which ranked 15th in the country in 2024.
- Apsel performed phenomenally against Power Five opponents this season. Against the NCAA Tournament qualifying Penn State Nittany Lions, Apsel threw 6.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three. Against the National Runner-Up Texas Longhorns, Apsel pitched 6.0 innings and allowed just four runs to one of the nation’s top offenses. Apsel and the Pride were one of just two non-Power Five teams to hold Texas to five runs or less this season and was one of three unranked teams to hold the Longhorns to under five runs this season. Maybe Apsel’s most impressive performance of the 2024 season came against Missouri who entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 7 overall seed and was one win away from the Women’s College world Series. Apsel shut down the Tigers as she pitched all nine innings of the thriller and allowed just two runs on four hits to the Tigers while striking out six.
