CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 1 ranked and No. 1 seeded Stanford defeated No. 4 ranked and No. 4 seeded Florida State, 3.5-1.5, in the semifinals of match play at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships at the Omni La Costa Resort. Stanford will face Northwestern for the national championship on Wednesday while one of the most historic seasons in the history of the Seminole program comes to a close.

In an epic match that will be remembered for the fight of both teams, three of the five matches (including the deciding one) were forced into extra holes before the winner was decided. The three matches —  including those that included Florida State’s All-Americans Lottie Woad and Mirabel Ting – were forced into extra holes as they were all tied after the regulation 18 holes.

Stanford gained victories by Paula Martin Sampedro, Kelly Xu, and Megha Ganne while Florida State’s win came from freshman Alexandra Gazzoli. Florida State’s Mirabel Ting, who won the ANNIKA Award as the nation’s top golfer earlier on Tuesday, earned .5 points as she completed her match tied with Stanford’s Andrea Revuelta.

“Today was a lot fun,” said Seminole head coach Amy Bond, the 2025 ACC Coach of the Year. “You had two big time programs going at it, head to head, some great golf was played. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong end of it. Overall, it was a great day for women’s golf.”

The Seminoles finished the season ranked No. 4 in the nation (it’s highest final ranking in program history), with seven team championships, the first ACC Championship in school history, the first No. 1 seed in an NCAA regional championship, and the third NCAA regional title in school history.

“Blow for Blow. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen anything like it where three matches go extra holes. Our girls did a great job of fighting and grinding it out against a really good Stanford squad. This won’t diminish the year; it was still a record breaking season and I’m extremely proud.”
