King Caps Regular Season with Fourth SEC Weekly Award
King is the first UF baseball player in program history to bring home four SEC weekly awards in a single season. The last SEC player to accomplish the feat was South Carolina’s Ethan Petry in 2023.
Monday’s announcement represents King’s third SEC Freshman of the Week accolade and second in as many weeks (March 3, May 12), in addition to claiming sole SEC Pitcher of the Week status on March 3. The Gators finish the season with eight total SEC weekly awards as a team.
Logging a decisive, game-three victory for the second-straight series, King fired 6 1/3 innings with one earned run and eight strikeouts against No. 18 Alabama in Saturday’s regular-season finale. Propelling Florida to it’s sixth-straight series win, King navigated around three Gator errors to ensure the Orange & Blue never relinquished the lead.
Throwing 94 pitches, the Jacksonville, Fla. native allowed just six hits and two walks while holding the Crimson Tide to a .231 batting average. King left six Alabama runners on base in the outing, stranding the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
Across his final four regular-season starts, King gave up just two earned runs in 20 2/3 innings for a 0.87 ERA while fanning 22 batters. He takes a 6-2 record, 2.76 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings into his first collegiate postseason.
King and the Gators return to action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. ET against South Carolina in the first round of the 2025 SEC Tournament.
