TALLAHASSEE – The fifth-seeded Florida State softball team (47-9) cruised to a 10-1 victory in five innings over Robert Morris (30-17) in its opening game of the Tallahassee Regional. FSU advanced to play USF in tomorrow’s regional semifinal at 1 p.m. FSU has now won 12 consecutive regional-opening games dating back to 2013.

Isa Torres wasted no time getting FSU on the board as she ripped one to center field for a triple and advanced home on a poor throw to third to immediately put FSU up 1-0.

Robert Morris picked up a two-out triple in the top of the second, but Annabelle Widra got the strikeout to end the inning and prevent any damage.

The Seminole bats came alive in the the third as Torres picked up her second hit of the day with a leadoff double. Jahni Kerr laid down a great bunt and stole second to put runners in scoring position for Katie Dack who hit a fly ball deep enough to score Torres. Michaela Edenfield drew a walk, and Hallie Wacaser doubled to put two more runs on the board for the Noles. Annie Potter laid down another great bunt, and Madi Frey beat the throw to extend the lead. Jaysoni Beachum picked up her first of three RBI on the day on a sac fly, and Shelby McKenzie added two more runs with a double to center to make it 6-0 after three innings.

Julia Apsel came in to relieve Widra in the fourth and retired the Colonials in order. FSU got right back to work as Kerr hit a leadoff single. Addie DeLong came in to pinch run for Kerr and immediately stole second and took third on a bad throw. She ended up scoring on a groundout from Frey to extend the lead to 7-0. Back-to-back singles from Beachum and Amaya Ross added three more runs for the Noles, and they were able to close out the game in five innings.

Widra picked up the win to improve to 10-3 after going three innings and striking out two while allowing two hits. Apsel pitched two innings and struck out three. FSU has allowed just two earned runs in its past four games.

Offensively, Torres, Beachum and Kerr each picked up multi-hit games with Beachum leading the way with three RBI.
