Alabama Athletics Completes an Exceptional Year in the Classroom
INDIANAPOLIS – As the 2025 Spring semester at The University of Alabama comes to a close, Crimson Tide teams once again excelled outside of competition, earning program record numbers in the classroom in 2024-25.
Alabama student-athletes combined for a 3.501 grade point average this spring – the highest mark of all-time at UA. With that, 98 Crimson Tide student-athletes received a diploma at spring commencement, which brings the total number of student-athlete graduates this year to 178 (80 graduated during winter commencement).
In the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR), which the NCAA announced last week, all 21 UA athletics teams continue to score well above the national cutoff standard figures that cover the four-year period (2020-21 through 2023-24 school years).
The Crimson Tide boasts 10 teams that led their respective sport in the SEC in APR numbers with 12 UA squads setting or tying all-time program-high marks for the four-year average. Altogether, it adds up to an average APR score of 994.9 across the university’s 21 sports. In fact, this year’s report marks the fourth consecutive year Alabama’s overall average score rated over a 992.
A total of seven Alabama teams led the nation in APR rankings (men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball), with women’s golf earning the honor for the 14th consecutive year.
Football’s mark of 998 was not only the best in the SEC but also set a program record for APR and ranked second overall in the nation. In addition to football, other teams that led the league in APR include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s swimming, softball, rowing, women’s tennis and volleyball.
In all, 15 of the 21 Crimson Tide programs earned a multi-year rate of 990 or better with 12 finishing among the top three teams in the conference for their respective sport.
About the Academic Progress Rate
- APR measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team
- Also serves as a predictor of graduation success
- NCAA’s Division I Board of Directors set cut scores of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible immediate and historical sanctions
