GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida lacrosse team (18-2, 5-0 Big 12) continues its postseason run, as the Gators will host Stanford (15-5, 7-2 ACC) in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 11 a.m. UF is seeking its fourth quarterfinals appearance in the last five years.
The Gators are currently riding a 15-game winning streak, defeating Mercer by a score of 18-6 in the first round on Friday. The win improved UF to 9-0 all-time in the first round, with it being the second double digit round one victory in program history.
Stanford is coming off a 10-4 first round victory over Denver on Friday night. The Cardinal blanked Denver in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 6-0 and holding them scoreless the last 37:39 of the game.
Series History
It is the third career meeting between the two programs and their first matchup against each other since 2015.
UF leads the all-time series 2-0, with both of those victories taking place in the NCAA Tournament. Florida defeated Stanford 15-10 in the 2015 NCAA First Round and beat the Cardinal 13-11 in the 2011 NCAA First Round for their first ever tournament win. Both games took place in Gainesville.
Monaco Staying Hot
Gianna Monaco set new career highs with seven goals and eight points, tying the record for both most goals and most points in a UF NCAA Tournament game. Her seven goals and eight points were the most in an NCAA Tournament game since 2021 (Grace Haus, vs. Jacksonville).
Monaco has logged 18 goals over her last three games, converting on .783 percent of her shots (18-for-23).
Dimers Badge on Lock
Frannie Hahn (55 assists) and Jordan Basso (36 assists) are the two main facilitators for this Gators attack, as the duo has combined for 91 of the teams 167 assists this season (54.5 percent of the assists).
Basso tied a season high of four assists in the first round, while Hahn dished out two, breaking the all-time season assists record in program history. Hahn has logged an assist in all 20 games this season, while Basso has logged one in 17 of 20 outings.
Dyer Dialing In
Ashley Dyer recorded three ground balls and three caused turnovers in Friday’s win over Mercer. The sophomore leads the Gators in ground balls this season with 37 and has recorded 10 over her last four games. In five career NCAA Tournament games, she has totaled 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Defensive Dogs to Grind It Out
Both the Gators and the Cardinal have top-10 scoring defenses in the country. Florida ranks seventh nationally allowing 8.80 goals per game, while Stanford is tied for eighth, giving up 9.00 goals per contest.
