TALLAHASSEE – Former Florida State women’s basketball player Kiah Gillespie was inducted into the Connecticut Basketball Hall of Fame in April.
A native of Meriden, Connecticut, Gillespie is among the most decorated women’s basketball players in state history.
Gillespie graduated from Capital Prep, where she led the Trailblazers to three straight state titles. She was back-to-back Gatorade Connecticut Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year and was a McDonald’s All-American as a senior.
As a senior, she averaged 31.2 points per game, 16.2 rebounds, including a career-high 42 points and 22 rebounds in the Class L state title game. Gillespie finished high school with 2,208 career points, earning all-conference honors and all-state honors.
Gillespie was named to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic All-Century Team in 2020 for the 100th anniversary celebration.
Gillespie joined the Seminoles in 2017 after two seasons at Maryland.
While in the Garnet and Gold, she was a two-time All-ACC first team selection and captured four different All-America honorable mention accolades. In 2019 she became the first player in program history to lead the team in points (16.2), rebounds (9.3) and three-point field goals (53).
In 2020, Gillespie was named to the All-ACC Tournament Team, after leading the Seminoles to an appearance in the finals. She averaged 16.6 points per game and 9.0 rebounds throughout the tournament. Gillespie also registered a double-double in the upset victory over No. 4 Louisville in the semifinals behind 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Gillespie is also one of four players in program history to record a triple-double, scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists against Michigan in 2019.
Following Florida State, Gillespie was drafted in 2020 by the Chicago Sky. She played most of her professional career in Toulouse, France and has since moved on to coaching. Gillespie spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at Stony Brook University following two seasons at Marist.
